There’s no need to look your age when you feel very young at heart. Skin & Derm Theory Aesthetics proudly offers FDA-approved wrinkle relaxers to help soften frown lines.

These neurotoxin medications block the release of chemicals that cause muscle contractions so frown lines soften; wrinkles and other signs of aging on your face can be treated safely and effectively without going under the knife.

Skin & Derm Theory Aesthetics has years of expertise and experience to offer men and women the best cosmetic procedures to help them look their absolute best even at the prime of their lives.

There are several wrinkle relaxers that are available depending on your need. However, a consultation must be done first before deciding which option is best for your needs. We carry FDA-approved wrinkle relaxers such as Botox® and Xeomin®.

What Are Wrinkle Relaxers?

The appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face undoubtedly signals the emerging inevitability of aging. While it’s okay to age gracefully, there’s no need to deprive yourself of the confidence you once had when you looked youthful and radiant.

With the use of FDA-approved wrinkle relaxers, you can look youthfully vibrant again with a face that exuberates life, energy, and health.  The Botox® procedure uses an injectable substance called Clostridium botulinum, a form of bacteria that has the ability to temporarily relax and paralyze the muscles responsible for the creation of wrinkles on the face.

The substance used for cosmetic wrinkle relaxer procedures is a purified protein from this bacterium cultured in the laboratory.  Once cultured, it possesses the qualities of natural protein that is found in the human body.

In its purified form, the Clostridium botulinum bacterium becomes a safe and effective neurotoxin that acts as a muscle relaxant to calm the fibers of the muscles that cause the skin to look loose and wrinkled.

The application of this procedure can be traced back to the 1970s when doctors used it to rectify overactive eye muscles.  Since then, it has been found to provide cosmetic benefits as well, particularly in mitigating the effects of premature aging on the face.  In 2002, BOTOX® gained approval for cosmetic use.

Wrinkle Relaxers – How Do They Work

Cosmetic denervation with Botox®  is done using a purified protein called BTX-A or botulinum toxin type A.  This substance is injected in the facial area directly into the muscles where wrinkles and fine lines are present.

Once injected, the substance works by calming the nerve impulses of the muscles, thereby reducing activity within the injected area that causes fine lines, frown lines, and wrinkles to form.

Upon administration, the patient experiences less to no movement within the muscles injected with the substances for up to 90 days.  As the procedure provides temporary relief, more injections may be recommended depending on the severity of the wrinkles, fine lines, and frown lines.

Within three to five days after administration, fine lines and wrinkles become softer until they fade away.

The procedure is considered safe, non-invasive, and painless without the need to administer any anesthesia.  However, the patient may experience a slight sting or prick on the areas injected. Topical anesthesia may also be administered should the patient and person providing the procedure decide its necessity.

It only takes about ten minutes for the whole Botox® procedure to be administered.  As its effects are short-lived, it is recommended for patients to undergo the procedure two to three times a year to maintain its full effects.  Research shows that effects from this procedure can be long-lasting after several treatments.

Problems That Wrinkle Relaxers Treat

Wrinkle relaxers have been proven effective to loosen up muscles that produce expression lines like wrinkles, fine lines, and frown lines. These expression lines are also called dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repetitive movement or continuous muscle contraction.

Apart from expression lines, these can also be used to treat crow’s feet and glabellar lines or those wrinkles that form between the eyes, as well as those that form in the forehead.

Wrinkle relaxers, however, is not just skin deep.  It can also be used to treat headaches, migraine, and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) – conditions that are caused by overactive muscles.

Results from this procedure vary from patient to patient. While it is a cosmetic procedure, it cannot be used to treat other aging-related conditions like sagging skin.

What To Expect After Treatment

Cosmetic neurotoxins using purified protein from Clostridium botulinum bacterium have been used for decades and are considered a safe and effective alternative to cosmetic surgeries. Patients have been benefiting from its ophthalmologic and cosmetic benefits for years.

There are a few, however, that see this procedure as a non-ideal approach to reversing the effects of aging due to some misconceptions.  Some believe that it will only cause them to look frozen or expressionless. These are simply side effects that can happen when the procedure isn’t performed by an experienced specialist, but are often correctable.

In reality, this procedure has very few side effects.  Once administered, the patient will only feel slight muscle paralysis in the injected muscles, which will hinder the ability to frown.  Other areas in the face not injected by the substances aren’t affected, which means all other facial expressions can still be present.

Other side effects may include bruising on the areas injected, tightness, and slight soreness in the face.  Numbness can also be felt in the muscles injected. These effects disappear eventually within a few hours.

As the procedure is non-surgical, there is no downtime and the patient can easily go back to his or her usual routine.

More importantly, the procedure is temporary, which means its side effects are reversible as well. The beneficial results, however, can offer patients the experience of having a facial appearance that looks younger and more energetic.
