What is the Radiesse Butt Lift?

Radiesse is an injectable dermal filler traditionally used to address moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is also used to correct volume loss in the back of the hands. Recently, aesthetic specialists have found that it’s effective in adding volume and contour to flat, saggy, or droopy posteriors.

The active ingredient in Radiesse is synthetic but biocompatible calcium hydroxylapatite. As an injectable, it comes in the form of microspheres suspended in a water gel. For a Radiesse butt lift, the filler is injected under the skin of the buttocks where collagen is produced.

The results of the treatment are both immediate and progressive. This means you get an initial lift provided by the gel component of Radiesse. However, as the gel is absorbed in the body and the particles of Radiesse are left, the second more long-lasting result kicks in.
Radiesse stimulates the production of collagen – the substance that gives the skin its strength and elasticity. In effect, Radiesse encourages the skin to produce more of its own filler.
Because of this collagen-stimulating characteristic of this dermal filler, the results of a Radiesse butt lift can last anywhere from 2 years up to 5 years.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Radiesse Butt Lift?

If you are looking for a non-surgical treatment solution to your flat, sagging, or droopy buttocks, the Radiesse butt lift is a great option for you. If you do not have enough excess fat in a donor region in your body, much like what is done for a Brazilian butt lift, Radiesse is also for you.

Additionally, Radiesse butt lift candidates should be:

  • In an overall healthy condition.
  • Able to maintain a fairly stable healthy weight.
  • Willing to commit to multiple treatment sessions. For Radiesse, some patients may require 3 treatments spaced 3 to 4 month apart to get the results they desire.

While a Radiesse may give you an immediate lift, the subsequent results due to an increase in collagen in the buttocks area will become apparent gradually. If you want instant full results, this treatment may not be for.

Why are My Buttocks Sagging or Not Perky?

There are several reasons that cause your butt to sag or become droopy:

Genetic predisposition Sometimes, it’s just the way it is. Your buttocks may not be saggy, but if you have an inherently flat butt, you may want to enhance what nature has blessed you with. Or you may have just inherited poor tissue elasticity and your butt may naturally be droopy as a result.

AgingAs we age, the muscles in our glutes may weaken. Eventually, they will succumb to the pull of gravity and well, will sag and droop.

PregnancyWhile becoming pregnant is wonderful, it can also cause body changes that we may not necessarily love. During pregnancy, the pelvis is tipped forward to compensate for the extra weight you carry in front. As a result, the hamstrings become underused and this results in drooping in the buttocks area.

Fluctuations in weight When you suddenly lose weight, the unwelcome effect is the sagging of certain body parts due to the loss of fat to support the skin. The butt is one area where this can be very visible. On the opposite end of the spectrum, sudden weight gain may result in droopy buttocks.

Sun damage Though you may not normally expose your buttocks to the sun enough to sustain damage, it can happen if you’re fond of sunbathing. This can result in brown spots, wrinkling, and sagging.

What Can a Radiesse Butt Lift Address?

We’ve already established that a Radiesse butt lift can help add more body and contour to butt that has become saggy or droopy due to aging, pregnancy, or weight loss.
However, it does more than this. Here are the other issues that the non-surgical Radiesse butt lift can address:

  • Flat buttocks. If you wish to have a fuller looking butt, Radiesse can add as much as 20-50% augmentation in shape and contour. If added volume is what you’re looking for, a Radiesse butt lift is for you.
  • Hollowed areas in the buttocks.
  • Stretch marks or cellulite.

The Benefits of a Radiesse Butt Lift

The Radiesse butt lift is a minimally invasive procedure. Because there are no incisions done or any anesthesia administered, there is very little downtime. Here are the benefits of opting for a dermal filler buttocks lift:

  • There is no postoperative scarring.
  • No liposuction is involved.
  • You can go back to your normal activities almost immediately after the procedure.
  • It can improve the texture of the skin and address any irregularities.
  • It can minimize the appearance of those zigzag stretch marks and cellulite.

The Radiesse Butt Lift Process

Pre-treatment consultation
This is an important step that must not be skipped. This minimizes risks and allows your specialists to access how appropriate the Radiesse butt lift is for you.

You will be asked to disclose any existing medical conditions you may have including allergies or bleeding disorders. You will also be asked if you’re currently taking any medications that can increase your risk of bleeding during the procedure.

As early as 2 weeks before your appointment, your specialist will ask you to refrain from:

  • Taking ibuprofen or NSAIDS that can increase the risk of bleeding
  • Taking herbal supplements
  • Alcoholic drinks (48 hours before treatment)Smoking or vaping (48 hours prior)

Treatment proper
The procedure is pretty straightforward and is typically administered in the office.

The treatment area will be sterilized to guard against infection. Your specialist may administer a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area and help with discomfort during and after the procedure.

A blunt tip cannula is inserted underneath the skin where collagen is produced. The whole process takes approximately 30 minutes.

Some patients may require 3 Radiesse treatments spaced 3 to 4 months apart to achieve the desired results.

After treatment
Unlike surgical butt lifts where you will be required to have someone with you for the first 48 hours after the procedure to assist you, you can go back to normal activities soon after your injections.

Some pain or soreness in the gluteal area is expected but this should go away after a week.

Your specialist will advise you to sleep on your back or on your side to avoid applying unnecessary pressure to the treatment area to allow the Radiesse to settle properly.

Radiesse Butt Lift Side Effects

While this is a minimally invasive procedure, it is not entirely without risks. Some of the normal side effects are:

  • Swelling
  • bruising
  • Redness
  • Pain
  • Rash or itching
  • Bleeding in the treatment area
  • Lumps or bumps
  • Asymmetrical results

More serious but rare side effects are due to infection that may occur. It’s important that you seek immediate medical help if you notice these:

  • Yellow or green discharge at the treatment area
  • Fever
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue

The risk of infection is rare so long as you go to a reputable provider which has certified and experienced specialists who will administer the treatment.
