Skin Theory Aesthetics is the Spectra Laser Peel expert, providing reliable results, all with no pain or downtime.

Spectra Laser Peel Basics

What is the Spectra Laser Peel?
The treatment is officially known as the Spectra Carbon Laser Peel. It uses a gentle laser assisted by a carbon mask to address signs of aging and help get rid of hyperpigmentation including freckles, melasma, age spots, and even tattoos you may have already outgrown.

Many Hollywood celebrities swear by it, and it has become a favorite go-to treatment whenever they need quick results to look fresh and glowy on those red carpet events. It’s no wonder why it’s also popularly known as the Hollywood Laser Peel.

This FDA-approved treatment is gentle and is safe for most skin types. Unlike other hasher laser treatments, there is no downtime after a Spectra Laser Peel treatment. You can have it done and not worry about hiding out until your skin has gone back to normal.

How Does It Work?Using a series of laser wavelengths and pulses, the Spectra Laser Peel gently resurfaces and exfoliates your skin. The laser is used in two modes:

  • Spectra Mode: When used in this mode, the laser works on the dermis and stimulates skin cell regeneration and production of collagen.

This allows your skin to regain some structure and suppleness. Any inflammation you may have, like acne or pimples, is addressed during the Spectra mode.

  • Q-Switched Mode: Several passes of the laser in the spectra mode is made before the Q-Switched mode is used. This time, the laser works to exfoliate old skin cells from the epidermis or the outermost layer of the skin. It does this by targeting the Spectra carbon lotion that is applied prior to the start of the treatment.

The laser also breaks down melanin that causes age spots, freckles, and melasma. Once the pigment is broken down, it is safely passed out through the body’s natural processes.
Multiple passes of the laser are made during a treatment session. However, because the laser light used is gentle, it’s possible to go about your day immediately after the treatment.

Does It Only Get Rid of Hyperpigmentation?
The Spectra Laser Peel addresses a wide variety of skin issues. It does not only get rid of hyperpigmentation (freckles, melasma, age or brown spots), it can also help with:

✔️Acne

✔️ Acne scars

✔️Oily skin

✔️ Enlarged pores

✔️Fine wrinkles

✔️Unwanted tattoos (only if the ink is black, red, brown, tan, orange, purple, or blue)

What Happens During a Spectra Laser Treatment?

A Spectra Laser Treatment is pretty straightforward. Unlike other treatments, there’s no need for any special preparations like refraining from certain medications or activities.
Before the treatment begins, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. Most patients may not need this step, but for some with especially sensitive skin, a topical anesthetic may be applied to keep the patient comfortable.

As mentioned above, this is a carbon-assisted laser treatment. The carbon comes in the form of a lotion called SpectraLotion™. This is thinly and evenly applied to the skin to form a sort of a mud pack on your face. The lotion contains fine carbon particles that can penetrate acne scars and pores.

Several passes of the laser are done and, as mentioned before, it’s used in 2 modes – the Spectra mode and the Q-Switched mode. This is what happens as the laser is passed over the skin:

  • As the laser penet
  • rates the dermis, skin cell regeneration and collagen production is stimulated.
  • The laser acts on the carbon in the SpectraLotion and this encourages ablation and exfoliation of dead skin cells on the epidermis.
  • At the same time, it helps to reduce production of sebum and helps with acne.
  • Finally, it gets rid of hyperpigmentation by acting on melanin that causes freckles, age spots, or melasma.

It’s normal to hear snapping sounds as the laser is applied to the skin. The skin may also feel tingly and warm. To keep your skin cool in between passes, your specialist may spray on a saline solution.A typical treatment session takes less than an hour to complete.
A single treatment can give you results that you will already be happy with. However, having two up to three treatments can help you achieve maximum results. If you so wish, you can have treatments spaced two weeks in between. You can repeat the process two to three times a year.

What are the Possible Side Effects?
While the treatment is non-invasive and gentle, you may still experience some reddening of the skin after your appointment. Don’t worry, as this usually subsides a few hours after treatment.

Swelling and some itching are reported by some patients. Some rare side effects are bruising, scabbing, or temporary hyper or hypo-pigmentation.
